How to Design a Diagram of a Classroom

Creating a design for a classroom is a beneficial practice because it is a useful tool for visualizing the capacity of a room and the positioning of student's desks, bookcases and other tables. It is often used to make seating charts for student's or to help plan for a remodeling of the room furniture. Ensuring a room with easy flow for foot traffic and fostering learning is essential for an educational environment. Instructions

1. Open your computer's Internet browser and visit the "4 Teachers" website in the reference below to use the free "Classroom Architect" program.

2. Select the dimensions of the classroom you want to make your diagram for in the "Select Room Dimensions" prompt.

3. Design your classroom. Drag and drop the furniture from the "Items" queue onto the room grid. You can adjust the orientation of the furniture by clicking the white arrows over the piece of furniture. If you would like to move a piece of furniture that is already on the grid, simply click and drag it to another location on the grid.

4. Save and print your design. Save your design by selecting the "save" option on the bottom right side of the web page. Print your floor plan by selecting the "print" option to the right of the "save" option. You can also design more than one layout if you choose.
