How to Paint Over a Chalk Board
When thinking about chalkboards, most people think about the traditional black or green boards that they remember from their school days. However, there is also a chalkboard paint that you can apply directly to your walls and chalkboard contact paper that you can apply to just about anything. One of the nice things about a chalkboard is once you become bored with it, you can paint directly over it. Keep in mind that it may take more primer applications to cover a chalkboard than it would a regular wall. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need

- Sponge

Instructions

1
Dust the chalkboard thoroughly. Make sure to remove any leftover chalk, dirt and debris.
-
2
Wet your sponge, wring out any excess moisture and wipe down the chalkboard.
-
-
3
Sand the chalkboard with a fine-grit sandpaper. Use an up and down motion. If your chalkboard is made from contact paper, skip this step. Sandpaper will just rip the contact paper.
-
4
Place one of your rollers on the roller brush. The roller will just slip on.
-
5
Pour some primer into the paint tray and dip your roller into it. Apply the primer to the chalkboard and allow to dry. If any of the black chalkboard shows through, continue adding coats until it is thoroughly covered. Discard the roller when you are done.
-
6
Add your second roller to the roller brush and apply your new paint. Change strokes while painting so you do not create any lines in the paint.
