How to Adjust the Chain Tilt Control on Vertical Blinds
A vertical blind is a very versatile window treatment, because you can push all the vanes to one side, exposing the entire window, or you can close it, yet still adjust the vanes for light and privacy. 1
Vertical blind in open position Remove the plastic end cap on the side of the head rail holding your vertical blinds. Some will pop off easily, but others may need to be nudged a little with a flathead screwdriver.
-
2
Vertical blinds in closed position Locate the metal rod inside the head rail, on the side of the rod that is not the control side, and tap the metal rod lightly . This will help to loosen the push nut that the manufacturer may have put on too tight.

3
Place the end cap back on, and test the chain. If the problem persists, a vane may be out of alignment.
-
4
Place a flat object, like a credit card, up into the top of a van--one you suspect may be out of alignment--where it hooks in. This will release the vane from the hook.
-
5
Pull on the chain, and see if it will readjust by itself. Most of the newer verticals have a self-adjustment mechanism.
-
6
Place the vane back into the hook, and open, close and adjust the vanes on your vertical blinds.
