How to Remove Labels on Clothes

Removing labels can make clothing more comfortable.

All clothes come with labels, telling you what kind of fabric the garment is made from along with cleaning instructions. The labels are normally in the back of the neck section or stitched along one side of most shirts. Many times the labels are itchy and bothersome, especially those rubbing against your neck. Removing a label is easy, but be careful not to damage your clothes when doing so.

Things You'll Need

• Scissors
• Seam ripper
• Tweezers

Instructions

1. Cut the label straight across close to the threads. Do not cut the loops of thread at the top of the label as you might create a hole in the fabric.

2. Snip the pointed ends left on the label on the clothing. Cut the ends in a round fashion so the label will not poke at your skin.

3. Break any loops of thread holding the label to the fabric, using a seam ripper. Only use the seam ripper on the threads of the label if the seam is not holding the garment together in some way. If the label is sewn as part of the seam, leave the cut label as it is. If the thread loops only hold the label on, you may remove them.

4. Pull the rest of the label off after removing the threads.

5. Pull any stray pieces of label left with a pair of tweezers.

• Look for shirts that print the labels on the inside of the garment.
