Send a Yahoo! Email to a Cell

You can use your normal Yahoo! email account to send a message to a cell phone (the recipient's cellphone converts the email into a text message for them to read). The only thing you need to know is the recipient's provider and cell phone number.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your Yahoo! account by entering your Yahoo! ID into the first text box and your password into the second box.

    • 2

Click the "New" button at the top to open an email template.

    • 3

In the "To" box, type the cell phone number plus area code (10 digits total), followed by the "@" sign.

    • 4

What follows the "@" sign will vary depending on the person's cell phone provider. Alltel is "message.alltel.com." AT&T is "txt.att.com." Boost is "myboostmobile.com." Nextel is "messaging.nextel.com." Sprint is "messaging.sprintpcs.com." TMobile is "tmomail.net." Verizon is "vtext.com." Virgin Mobile is "vmobl.com." So a person with the Verizon cell phone number 874-848-2939 would be emailed with the address:

      8748482939@vtext.com

Enter a subject and body for the email and click "send."

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your message brief. Cell phone text messages can usually only hold between 110-160 characters.

  • If you know the recipient has a smartphone with an email address synced to the phone, you can just mail to their normal email address.
