How to Repair a 1994 Ford Explorer Electric Window
Power windows are a wonderful convenience for people driving or riding in a 1994 Ford Explorer. However, when something goes wrong and the window won’t work, it becomes an even larger inconvenience. The power window system consists of several key components. If one or more of those components malfunction, the entire system becomes inoperable. Before making the repair, you’ll need to determine what has failed, which will lead you to the specific part to replace in order to get the system functioning once again.

1
Locate the power window fuse in the fuse panel. The owner’s manual will tell you the fuse's location. The panel is located under the dashboard.
-
2
Swap the power window fuse with a replacement fuse of the same style and amperage. Test the windows. If they work, you simply had a bad fuse.

3
Pop the window switch bezel out of the driver door panel using the pocket screwdriver. Be careful not to damage the door panel with the tip of the screwdriver. Turn the switch over and disconnect the wiring harness from the switch. Plug the wiring harness into the new switch and test the window. If the window operates, you had a faulty window switch.

Use the trim tool and socket set to remove the door panel. Remove the fasteners in the door first and then pull the door panel free from the door using the trim tool. The trim tool will allow you to properly unseat trim pins that hold the panel to the door. It is best to begin pulling trim pins out at the bottom, trailing edge of the panel and then work your way forward until you have removed them all from the door. Then lift the door panel up and off the door.

Examine the window regulator to make sure nothing is broken, binding or coming apart. If you see anything amiss, replace the regulator. You can do this by securing the window in the upright position with packing tape adhered to the window glass and over the top of the door frame, and then unbolting the regulator from the door, window glass and motor. Pull the old regulator out and install the replacement regulator in reverse order of how you removed the old one. Remove the tape and test the window when done. If it still doesn’t work, put the tape back on the glass and continue troubleshooting.

Use the socket to unbolt the window motor, pull it out of the door by hand, insert the replacement motor and bolt it back into place. Remove the tape and test the window. Reinstall the door panel in reverse order of how you removed it.
