How to Make Picture Puzzle Pieces
Puzzles created from your photos can be unique, special gifts for your loved ones. There are many Web sites that offer to make puzzles for you from your pictures; however, with the proper software and a little bit of computer know-how, you can make puzzles yourself and e-mail them to your friends and family.

Open Adobe Photoshop. Click "File," then "New" to create a new file. Make the new file size 400 by 400 pixels.

Click the "New Layer" button. (This button is next to the trash can on the Layers window.) Name the layer "Photo." Go to "Edit --> Paste from File," and choose the image you want to use to paste it into the new layer.

Create another new layer. Name this one "Puzzle Piece."

Click on the rectangle tool underneath the text tool. A menu will pop up with different types of shape tools. Choose the custom shape tool by clicking on it. The shape menu will pop up. Choose the puzzle piece tool.

Change the foreground color to black by clicking on the top square of the two colored squares in the center of your palette and choosing black.

Drag the puzzle piece shape from the Shape menu onto the photo.

Select the Magic Wand tool, and click on the puzzle piece. Go to "Select," and choose "Inverse."

Select the Photo layer in the Layer menu. Click the delete key. All you should see now is the puzzle piece. Deselect the puzzle piece by typing CONTROL + D. Click the eye next to the puzzle piece in the Layers window. Now you should see the puzzle piece with the picture.

Save the puzzle piece.

Repeat these steps, putting the puzzle piece in a different location in Step 6, as often as necessary to create all puzzle pieces.

Burn all the puzzle pieces to a CD, and bring them to your favorite printing company to print out on card stock. Have the borders cut to size by your printer so that your friends and family can play with the puzzle.
