How to Fix a Registry in XP

The Windows XP registry is the location within the operating system where all variables relating to all installed programs are stored, making it a volatile and necessary location to keep your computer running smoothly. Fixing or repairing your registry can be accomplished using registry cleaning tools such as CCleaner, RegCleaner, or Registry Mechanic. These programs will scan your registry for problems and fix them automatically.

Instructions

1. Click on any of the pages listed under "Resources" and download the registry-cleaning program of your choice.

2. Save the downloaded file to your desktop.

3. Double click on the downloaded file to install the program.

4. Open the program and select the "Scan Registry" or "Clean Registry" button.

5. Press the "Fix Selected Problems" button when the scan is complete to repair your registry.
