How Do I Get the Best Picture on My 120 Hz HDTV?

An HD television that has a refresh rate of 120hz provides a smoother picture than any other SD television or HDTV with a refresh rate of 60hz. However, when you are first setting up the television the 120 refresh rate usually isn't activated, in which case you need to adjust some of the TV's settings to obtain the best picture on your high-definition television.

Things You'll Need

• HDMI cable
• Cable/satellite receiver

Instructions

1. Connect the HD cable or satellite receiver to the HD television via HDMI cable (insert the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the receiver, then plug the other end into an HDMI port on the TV). SD channels and many HD channels do not support 120hz so, when enabled, the smoother refresh rate may not appear. You can usually see the difference in the refresh rate when watching blu-ray movies.

2. Press the "Menu" button on the TV remote control and select "Picture." The picture options load on the screen.

3. Chose "Refresh Rate" (sometimes referred to as TV motion).

4. Set the refresh rate to "Medium." Setting it too high can actually end up distorting the image so keep the setting at a medium level.

5. Press "OK" to accept the changes. Your TV picture will now look smoother.
