How to Change a Command Alias in Autocad 2000

A command alias in AutoCAD is a short version of a full command that you can enter in the AutoCAD 2000 command line. Most versions of AutoCAD 2000 come equipped with the Command Alias Editor Tool, which makes it easy to edit command aliases. AutoCAD 2000 does not include the Alias Editor. The command aliases are stored in the "ACAD.PGP" file. In case of AutoCAD 2000, you have to manually edit the "ACAD.PGP" file to make changes to the command aliases.

Instructions

    • 1

Save Changes and Close AutoCAD. If you make changes to the "ACAD.PGP" file while AutoCAD 2000 is open, you will have to reinitialize the file by typing "reinit" in the AutoCAD 2000 command line.

    • 2

Open the file "ACAD.PGP" from the "Support" folder in the AutoCAD 2000 directory. If you don't know where AutoCAD 2000 is installed, then use the Windows search feature to find the file. The file will open in Notepad so you can edit it.

    • 3

Choose a new command alias. The "ACAD.PGP" defines the command alias in the following format <Alias>, *<Command>. For example:

      A, *ARC
      LE, *QLEADER
      -LT, *-LINETYPE

An alias preceded by a hyphen (such as "-LT") invokes the command line version of the command. If a command can be used transparently (invoked while another command is in progress) you can set a transparent command alias by adding an apostrophe ( ' ) before the alias.

    • 4

Save and close "ACAD.PGP" to save changes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the new command alias you choose is not already in use by another command.
