How to Host Local Servers on Left 4 Dead
Hosting a Left 4 Dead server has several advantages. A hosted server allows for greater control over who can play in a specific Left 4 Dead match. It also allows for hosting unofficial game modifications that enhance game play and enjoyment. Within Left 4 Dead, Valve has included the ability to host a server directly from a player's computer.

Tips & Warnings
It is possible to enter many command line options from the console if hosting a local Left 4 Dead server. See the complete list of command line options available from Valve's developer resource site.
If you are hosting a local server from the same machine used for game play, there may be a slight performance hit due to the extra overhead of hosting the local server.
