Instructions

    • 1

      Put on your rubber gloves.

    • 2

Blot up any remaining moisture using paper towels. Press the towels into the carpet, absorbing as much moisture as possible until the towels come up dry.

    • 3

Mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle, and screw the cap on tightly.

    • 4

Spray a liberal amount of the vinegar and water solution over the area of the stain, and work the solution into the carpet fibers using a scrub brush.

    • 5

Blot the excess moisture up with paper towels as you did in Step 2.

    • 6

Cover the surface of the stain with a thin layer of baking soda. Allow the baking soda to sit on the stain for at least 10 minutes.

    • 7

In a basin or cup, mix half a cup of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide solution with a tsp. of mild dishwashing liquid.

    • 8

Slowly pour the hydrogen and detergent solution over top of the baking soda. Work the solution into the carpet with your fingers and a scrubbing brush.

    • 9

Allow the area to dry before blotting the stained area with damp paper towels.

    • 10

Allow the area to dry completely before vacuuming it thoroughly.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you cannot get the carpet stains out using a home remedy, you may need to buy a commercial carpet cleanser specified for pet stains. In a pinch try a laundry stain spray in place of the hydrogen peroxide solution.
