Finding a gift for a guy can be difficult, depending on the guy, the occasion and your relationship to him. Special people warrant special gifts, but sometimes it's hard to find a special gift if you haven't known the guy for a long time, if he claims he doesn't want anything or if he seems to have everything he wants. Pay attention to what he needs. For some guys, the most appreciated gift is the most practical one. Look at his shoes, clothes and wallet. If something is worn out, replace it as a gift. If he mentions that he needs anything, such as a GPS for his car, file that in your memory and give it to him at the appropriate time.

Talk to the guys he's close to, particularly his best friend, brother or roommate. These people can point you in the right direction and perhaps even offer specific gift suggestions.

Ask the guy to list his favorite films of all time. This might give you some fresh ideas. For example, if he says "Star Wars" and "The Wizard of Oz," you know he's a creative, imaginative person and would probably like a creative, imaginative gift. If all else fails, and you know he really likes films, you could give him some movie memorabilia.

Take note of what he orders for dessert in a restaurant and try to replicate it at home. For example, that slice of strawberry cheesecake that he ordered will be even better homemade, and he'll have an entire cake, not just a slice.
