Help With XP if Drop-Down Menu Won't Display

The drop-down menus that you see when you work with Windows XP are part of the Windows Explorer file and folder browsing utility. If these drop-down menus are not displaying properly or at all, it is because of a problem with Explorer. Luckily, these problems can be fixed quickly by simply closing Explorer and then restarting it. To do this, you'll have to use the Windows Task Manager.

Instructions

    • 1

Right click on your computer's task bar (at the bottom of your screen).

    • 2

      Click "Task Manager."

    • 3

      Click "Processes."

    • 4

Click "Explorer.exe" (or "iexplore.exe" on some systems), then click "End Process" to close Windows Explorer.

    • 5

Click "Applications." Click on the "New Task..." button and then type "Explorer.exe" or "iexplore.exe" into the box that appears. Click "OK" to relaunch Windows Explorer. Your drop down menus will now load successfully.
