How to Study for a Driver's Ed Test

How to Study for a Driver's Ed Test thumbnail
Learning to drive.

Most public schools offer driver's education programs. These programs are designed to teach teens the proper way to drive. They also teach the students the rules and regulations of the road. Once students finish their driver's education course, they will be required to take a test. Passing that test will help reduce most students insurance costs when they go to insure a car. Students will still need to pass their permit test, as well as their driving test to gain a license.

Instructions

    • 1

Review the material in your study guide. Go back through the study guide and pay attention to the driving terms. Key driving terms should be bold faced. Look for specific information that your driving instructor covered in class. These will be the most important points. It will also help if you re-read your driver's education manual from cover to cover.

    • 2

Use an online study guide if you were not given one in class. Golocalnet (See Resources) has an online study guide you can print out. Make sure you choose the state you will be taking your test in from the drop-down menu to get the correct guide.

    • 3

Take some practice tests. Some driver's education manuals have a practice test in the back of them. If not, you can utilize some free practice tests available on the Web (See resources). Look at the answers that you got incorrect. Locate that information in your study manual to find out what the correct answers are. This will help you focus on your areas of weakness.

    • 4

Ask a friend or family member to help you study. Give him your manual and ask him to formulate possible test questions. You can then give the answers. He can tell you whether you were correct, or incorrect. If you were not correct, he can tell you what the right answer would have been. Write down the answers you got wrong, and focus on studying them later on.

Tips & Warnings

  • It helps to review each chapter as you complete it with your instructor.

  • Make sure you start studying several days to a week ahead of time. Don't expect to be able to cram all of the information the night before the exam.
