How to Keep Bit Torrent From Copying From Me?

How to Keep Bit Torrent From Copying From Me? thumbnail
It is not possible to actually stop Bittorrent from uploading, but it is possible to reduce the amount uploaded to a miniscule amount.

Every Torrent downloading software has a feature that automatically "seeds"--uploads--a file that is currently being downloaded. For example, if you have downloaded a file on the Bit Torrent software to your computer, it automatically starts uploading the file back to the Torrent site you downloaded it from, copying the data from your computer. Torrent devised this method to save space on its website because hosting hundreds of thousands of files that easily exceed 1 GB in size is very expensive. You can't stop Torrent from copying (uploading) files you've downloaded with Bit Torrent, but you can take steps to reduce it to a bare minimum.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the "Start" menu. Click on "All Programs."

    • 2

Scroll down to "Bit Torrent" and open the software.

    • 3

Right-click the file you are downloading or already have downloaded. Go to Step 4 if you are currently downloading a Torrent and want to stop it from being copied (uploaded) to the Torrent site. Go to Step 5 if you've already downloaded the file from the Torrent site and want to stop it from being copied (uploaded).

    • 4

Right-click the file that is currently being copied (uploaded) to the Torrent site. Select "Speed Limits" on the bottom of the menu and reduce the seeding speed to the lowest setting, which is 1KB/second. This practically halts the uploading process because of the very slow speed (it would take 1000 seconds--almost 17 minutes--for 1 MB to be uploaded).

    • 5

Right-click the Torrent file you've already downloaded and select "Remove" on the bottom of the list. The Torrent file will be removed and the copying (uploading) will therefore stop.
