If you hesitate to make purchases because you want to make sure you get the best deal, you don't have to miss out on a drop in price for the item you desire. A web service called "Price Protectr" watches the price of any item on the web for changes. You specify the target price and the length of time to watch the item. You receive an email when the price has dropped enough to make it worth your while to purchase it. Or you can watch prices for in-store items.

Instructions

Online shopping

1. Find the webpage of the item you wish to track.

2. Highlight the web address. Hold down "Ctrl" and press "C" to copy the address to the clipboard.

3. In your browser's address bar, type "priceprotectr.com" and hit "Enter."

4. Place your cursor in the top box on the page. Hold down "Ctrl" and press "V" to paste the web address for your product into the box. Click "Look it up."

5. Select "Price Target." Enter your target price and target duration in the space provided.

6. Enter your email address and click "Start targeting" to complete the setup of your price watch alert.

In-store shopping

1. Contact your favorite stores or the manufacturers of your favorite products. Ask to be added to their mailing list or email list to receive notices about sales and discounts.

2. Check the advertisements found throughout your local newspapers for notices of sales.

3. Contact stores in your area and ask if a display model is available, or will become available, for the item you are seeking. Display models often sell for a cheaper price than the same items sitting on the shelf.
