How Do I Physically Replace the Ink Cartridge in HP 54?

The HP 54 ink cartridge is a high-yield black inkjet cartridge compatible with HP printers such as the Deskjet F4100. This cartridge can print as many as 600 pages of text. Instructions

1. Prepare the new HP 54 cartridge by removing it from the packaging and peeling the tape cover from the bottom. Avoid touching the metal contacts or the ink nozzle on the new cartridge. Set the cartridge aside and turn the printer on.

2. Swing the center door on the front of the printer down to open it. The print heads will move to the center so you can access them. Wait until the print heads have stopped moving before touching them.

3. Push the ink cartridge on the right side down until you feel a light snap. Let go, and the cartridge will pop up slightly. Slide the cartridge forward out of the carrier.

4. Situate the new HP 54 cartridge in front of and slightly below the carrier. Push it up and forward until it snaps into place.

5. Check the paper tray to confirm that there is at least one sheet in the printer. If you are using an all-in-one printer with a scanner, it will need to print a test page to confirm the alignment of the new ink cartridge.

6. Close the printer's front door. After the ink cartridges return to their normal home position, a test page will print.

7. Take the test page and place it on the scanner bed so the upper-left corner of the page is aligned with the paper-shaped icon in the corner of the scanner bed.

8. Push the "Scan" button on the printer's control panel. The test page will be used to make any adjustments necessary to the printer alignment.
