How to Measure for Recliner Slip Covers
You can totally change the color and look of your recliner by just adding a slip cover. A slip cover can protect the fabric of your recliner from spills and pet accidents. A slip cover can also cover up old, faded or torn fabric and give your recliner new life and style. You can even slip cover a leather recliner if you use nonskid rug backing underneath the cover. Most slip covers are machine washable and wrinkle resistant. There are many different types of recliner chairs, so it is important to measure correctly before you order a slip cover for it. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Start your measurements with the recliner in its upright position. A cloth measuring tape is easier to use than a less flexible one.
-
2
Stand behind the recliner. Measure the recliner's back from the top to the bottom to ascertain height.
-
-
3
Determine the width of the recliner by measuring from the outer edge of one arm to the outer edge of the other arm. Remove the armrest covers before measuring.
-
4
Measure the circumference of the back of the recliner. For some slip covers, this may be the only measurement you need to purchase the correct size.
-

Another measurement, helpful when ordering custom-made slip covers, is with the chair in the reclining position. Start from the top back edge of the recliner, and measure to the end of the footrest.
-
6
Write down the measurements in inches and centimeters. Some slip cover manufacturers use inches and others use centimeters to categorize their slip covers. Buy a larger slip cover if you can't find one that matches your measurements exactly.
