How to Search for People in Prison in Texas

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has an inmate search available on their website which makes it very easy to find information on who has been or is currently in prison in that state. This option should be used with caution, however, since there may be more than one offender with the same name. This could lead to confusion.

Instructions

1. Go to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website (www.tdcj.state.tx.us).

2. Under the "Quick Links" menu, click on "Offender Information." Once a new page appears, click on "Online Offender Search".

3. Type the person's information into the appropriate spaces. For the best results, only use the first and last names and the sex. Click on "Submit Request."

4. A new window or tab will pop up featuring a list of offenders with the name you chose. Click on the record number on the far left side of the screen to pull up more information.

Tips & Warnings

• If you are not sure about the correct spelling of a name, try inputting just the first few letters. The system will select names that are start with those letters. You can also perform a search using just a last name.
