Use caution when replacing your battery, as the battery can be heavy.

Replacing the battery is a regular part of your car's maintenance. However, because car batteries can be heavy, it is important to use caution when lifting both the old and the new batteries so you do not hurt yourself. Also, be sure to dispose of the battery properly. Some auto stores offer rebates for returning your old battery, so check the policy of the store where you bought the battery.

Instructions

  1. Replacing the battery of your Volvo XC 70

    • 1

Make sure your engine is turned off. Using your hood release, pop open the hood of your Volvo XC 70, and locate your old battery. Two nodes will attach the car to the battery terminals.

    • 2

Using a wrench if necessary, remove both nodes from the old battery terminals, and carefully lift the battery out of its tray.

    • 3

Clean out the bottom of the tray and proceed to place the new battery into the battery tray. Most new batteries include a handle to make lifting the battery easier.

    • 4

Place the nodes onto the new battery. Make sure that the positive node attaches to the positive battery terminal. The node should be red in color, while the positive battery terminal should have a "+" sign. Conversely, the negative node will be black and the negative battery terminal will have a "-" sign. If necessary, use the wrench once again to tighten the nodes to the terminal to prevent slippage.

    • 5

Power on your Volvo XC 70 to test and ensure that the new battery has been installed properly. If it cranks on, the battery is likely properly installed.
