How to Caulk for a Woodstove Pipe
Caulking a wood stove pipe is a simple, yet extremely important, do-it-yourself project. Without the proper caulking applied to the pipe, smoke can seep back into the room instead of being channeled outside. It is essential that you use a proper acrylic latex silicone caulk and apply it properly to the stove pipe. With a basic caulking gun, caulk and some patience, you can effectively seal your pipe and ensure your safety. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut the tip of the caulking tube at a 45-degree angle with a utility knife. Puncture the inner seal of the tube by inserting a nail or the spear on the caulking gun down through the tip.
-
2
Insert the acrylic latex silicone caulk tube into the caulking gun. Prep the tube by squeezing on the trigger to release a small amount of caulk.

3
Clean the stove pipe surface. Use a nonabrasive pad to clear the surface of dust and grime. If there is old caulking on the pipe, scrape it off with a putty knife.
-
4
Apply the caulk to the stove pipe. Continuously pull the trigger and work your way around the stove pipe slowly to ensure a steady and continuous bead of caulk. Apply the caulk at a 45-degree angle and make sure the caulk fully covers the seam of the wood stove pipe.
-
5
Smooth the caulk with your wet finger. You can also moisten a paper towel to smooth the caulk evenly over the pipe's surface.
-
6
Let the caulk dry 24 hours before using the stove.
