How to Repair a Pool Liner

How to Repair a Pool Liner thumbnail
Repair a pool liner with vinyl repair kits.

Pool liners are found in all above-ground pools and in some in-ground pools as well. The liner is made of vinyl and separates the pool water from the pool walls. If the liner in a pool is not centered correctly, it can pull away from the top track holding it in place. A liner also degrades over time and develops rips or holes that, if not too large, can be repaired with a pool repair kit. There are two different pool liner kits--a dry kit for repairs above the water line and a wet repair kit for repairs under the water. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Putting a Liner Back into Its Track

    • 1

Pour hot water from a pan over the liner where it has pulled away from the top rail.

    • 2

Stretch the liner back toward the top track and rail as you continue to pour the hot water over it.

    • 3

Secure the liner back into the track and top rail.

Repairing a Tear in the Pool Liner

    • 4

Locate any rip or hole in the pool liner.

    • 5

Cut a piece of replacement liner from the repair kit to cover the entire rip or hole.

    • 6

Place adhesive from the repair kit onto the replacement piece. Rub adhesive onto the area around the damaged liner.

    • 7

Apply the replacement piece onto the hole or tear. Apply pressure to the piece for at least 30 seconds to ensure the piece is bonding properly to the liner.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid disrupting the repaired area by not swimming in the pool for at least 24 hours.
