Always use your turn signals when turning.

Front turn signal blinkers of the 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier are integrated into the headlamp assembly. In days past, you could simply reach down and pull the socket out to gain access to the turn signal bulb. As vehicles become lighter to aid in fuel efficiency, however, they become more difficult to work on even for the seasoned mechanic. What was once a simple 30-second job now requires a wrench, mechanical inclination and about 10 minutes of your time.

Instructions

    • 1

Raise the hood and use the box wrench to remove the exposed retaining bolt at the top of the headlamp assembly.

    • 2

Lift the trim cover gently, using care not to break the retaining tabs off of it. Remove the other bolt with the box wrench.

    • 3

Pull the headlamp assembly outward to gain access to the sockets. Turn the socket 1/8-turn and gently pull backward until the socket comes free of the headlamp assembly.

    • 4

Pull the old bulb out by hand and insert the new one. Test the turn signals before reassembly to make sure the new bulb works.

    • 5

Insert the socket back into the headlamp assembly and turn 1/8-turn until it seats.

    • 6

Push the headlamp assembly back into position and reinstall the retaining bolts in reverse of how they were removed.
