How Do I Turn on Virus Protection for Windows?
Computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system require the installation of virus software to insure they operate quickly and efficiently. In the past, Windows users had to rely on non-Microsoft software to protect their computers from viruses. Not anymore. Microsoft Security Essentials will protect your computer from viruses and malware, and it's free.

Open a new browser window.

Go to Microsoft's "Security Essentials" page (see Resources).

Click on the "Download Now" button and save the installation file to your desktop.

Double-click on the installation file that you saved to your desktop.

Click "Yes" when you see the prompt asking if it's OK for the program to make changes to your computer.

Click "Next" when you see the welcome screen.

Click "Accept" when you see the End User License Agreement.

Click "Validate" to confirm that you are using a genuine copy of Windows software.

Click "Install." Once the installation is complete, Microsoft Security Essentials will update its library of virus and spyware definitions and then scan your computer.
