The Best Way to Connect Modem to DSL Phone Line thumbnail
Connect your modem to your DSL phone line.

Once you've received the DSL modem for your high-speed Internet service, you have two options for a quick and easy installation: connect your modem directly to your DSL phone line with the telephone cord that comes with the modem, or install a DSL filter in your telephone jack and connect the modem to the filter. A DSL filter should be used only if you are using a telephone on the same line as the DSL service.

Instructions

  1. Installation with No Filter

    • 1

Insert the gray DSL telephone cord into your telephone wall jack. The cord will make a single clicking noise to confirm it was inserted properly.

    • 2

Connect the other end of the telephone cord into your DSL modem's port labeled "PHONE LINE."

    • 3

Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, then insert the other end into your modem's "Power" port. Wait for the modem's lights to turn a solid green.

    Installation with DSL Filter

    • 4

Insert the DSL filter's cable into the telephone wall jack until you hear a single click.

    • 5

Insert the gray DSL cord into the DSL filter's port labeled "DSL/HPNA" until you hear a single click, then insert the other end into your DSL modem's "PHONE LINE" port.

    • 6

Insert the telephone cord into the "PHONE" port on the DSL filter and plug the other end into your landline telephone's jack. Wait for your modem's lights to turn a solid green before attempting to connect to the Internet.
