Securely mounting a stationary air compressor is important to keep it from moving around or tipping over. In selecting a location for your air compressor, keep in mind that it needs not only a source of intake air but also free air to cool the pump. Things You'll Need

  • Safety glasses or goggles
  • Pencil or felt-tipped marker
  • Electric drill and 1/4-inch bit (for installation on wood floors)
  • Hammer drill and 3/8-inch bit (for installation on concrete)
  • 3/8 x 3-inch lag bolts (for wood)
  • Wedge anchors (for concrete)
  • 3/8-inch washers
  • Adjustable wrench

      Set the compressor in place temporarily. Using the mounting holes as a guide, mark the locations for the mounting bolts on the floor.

      For wooden floors, drill 1/4-inch pilot holes using an electric drill. For concrete floors, use the hammer drill to bore 3/8-inch bolt holes.

      Move the compressor back into place.

      Slide the washers onto the bolts, and insert the bolts into the bolt holes. Tighten the bolts with the adjustable wrench.

  • Locate your air compressor by an outlet, or add an outlet near your compressor to avoid using an extension cord.
