How to Install a Double-Ended Metal Halide Lamp
You have a beautiful aquarium you want to keep well lit. A double-ended metal halide lamp is a great choice. Installing the lamp is something you want to do the right way the first time. Although the process is rather simple, there are a few key pieces of knowledge that will prevent you from causing harm to yourself, your animals or the bulb itself along the way. Shut the power off to the lamp. If you are replacing an existing bulb, allow it to cool.

Insert the lamp. Apply equal pressure to the lamp as you insert it into the socket. Do not to touch the glass at any time during installation.

Replace the protective UV shield. These lamps can produce ultraviolet rays that are harmful to the eyes and living animals in the tank if the protective shield is not replaced.

Tips & Warnings
If you touch the glass of the bulb during the installation, wipe it down with alcohol and allow it to dry.
