How to Get a Florida Lost Car Title
The state of Florida uses the certificate of title, usually referred to as the title, as proof of ownership for vehicles. A title is required for most vehicles, although moped, motorized bicycles and lightweight trailers are exempt. You must apply for a Florida title upon purchasing a motor vehicle or when you move a vehicle into the state. If the original title has been lost, you can apply for a replacement title.

Tips & Warnings
For an additional fee, certain counties will provide expedited service. With this service, you can receive your title within five business days.
The original title is voided once a duplicate title is requested. If you locate your original title after receiving a duplicate, send the original to Department of Motor Vehicles to be canceled.
