It's easy to convert WordPerfect files using Word's Batch Conversion Wizard

WordPerfect letters, memos and other documents cannot be opened directly with Microsoft Word and must be converted using Word's Batch Conversion Wizard. The wizard is available in each version of Word. The wizards works by walking you through the process so you don't have to download a third-party utility or convert the WordPerfect files manually. Once converted, you can save the files as Word documents or in another format like Rich-Text or Text format.

Instructions

      Open Microsoft Word.

      Click "File," then "New." A new dialog box will open.

      Click on the "Other Documents" tab.

      Double click the "Batch Conversion Wizard" icon. Click "Next."

      Click on the circle next to "Convert from another format to Word."

      Click on the down arrow and select "WordPerfect 6.x." Click "Next."

      Click "Browse" next to the wording "Source Folder:". Navigate to the folder containing the WordPerfect files you would like to convert. Click on the folder's name to select the folder. Click "Open."

      Click "Browse" next to the wording "Destination Folder:". Navigate to the folder where you want to save the converted WordPerfect files to. Click on the folder's name to select the folder. Click "Open."

      Click "Next."

      Click the "Select All" button to select all of the WordPerfect files in the folder for conversion. To select individual files, double click the file(s) you want to convert in the "Available:" section. The file name will move to the "To Convert" section. (Note, the converted WordPerfect files will contain the same file name but will have a ".doc" extension.)

      Click "Next."

      Click "Finish." The Batch Conversion Wizard will process the files and display the status of the process on your computer's screen.

      Click "No" to exit the Batch Conversion Wizard if you have no other WordPerfect files to convert. Click "Yes" to perform another conversion.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use the same folder your WordPerfect files are in to store the converted files. The conversion process will overwrite the WordPerfect files. Note, you will not be warned that the files are being overwritten.
