How to Remove Cigarette Smoke From a Car Using Natural Products
When you purchase a used car or rent one you may notice a lingering smoke odor. Cigarette smoke sticks to fabrics and does not remove easily from car upholstery. If you want to remove the cigarette smell from your car without using harsh cleaning products, you can clean the car's interior by hand with natural products.
Things You'll Need
- Baking soda
- Vacuum
- Container
- Activated charcoal
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 tbsp. baking soda
- Washcloth

Open all the windows in your car. Allow the car to air out. This will remove the majority of the cigarette smoke odors.

Pour a moderate amount of baking soda onto the car seats and carpet. Rub the baking soda into the upholstery and allow it to set for one week. Vacuum the baking soda out. If the cigarette odor remains, try an alternate cleaning method.

Fill a container with activated charcoal. Sit it in the car overnight with the windows and doors shut. The charcoal will absorb strong and lingering odors.

Clean the dashboard and doors to remove cigarette buildup. Combine 1 cup of white vinegar and 2 cups of warm water. Add 1 tbsp. of baking soda and use a washcloth to remove the smoke buildup that may be leaving an odor behind.

Repeat one or more of the steps continuously until you remove the cigarette smell from the car.
