How to Clean a Stainless Steel Roasting Pan
Roasting pans allow the grease from your roasted meats to drip down away from the meat, which lowers the overall fat content. Unfortunately, since roasting meat entails using high temperatures, all of that fat and grease has a tendency to burn and get stuck to the bottom of the pan making it a pain to clean up afterward. With a few common household items and a little effort, you can get your stainless steel roasting pan looking like new. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Sponge with scouring pad
- Dish soap
- Baking soda
- Steel wool pad
- Metal spatula
- Pot holder
- White or apple cider vinegar

1
Wash out the loose pan drippings using hot, soapy water and the sponge. Use the scouring pad to scrape away as much stuck-on grease and drippings as you can.
-
2
Rinse the roasting pan and fill it halfway with water. Place the roasting pan on your stove top and bring the water to a boil. Let the water boil for a few minutes to soften any hard, burnt materials stuck to the pan.

3
Turn off the flame on your stove top. Grip one of the roasting pan's handles using the pot holder and scrape away as much burnt material as you can with the metal spatula. Take care not to splash any water on yourself.
-
4
Allow the roasting pan to cool and place it in the sink. Dump out any remaining water and shake enough baking soda onto the pan to coat the surface.
-
5
Soak the steel wool pad with warm water and use it to scrape any remaining material from the roasting pan. If the baking soda is clumping, pour a little bit of warm water into the pan to thin it out. Take special care to scrub the corners of the roasting pan.
-
6
Soak the sponge with vinegar and rub it along the surfaces of the roasting pan. The vinegar and baking soda will react and start to fizz, so be sure to do this in the sink.
-
7
Rinse the roasting pan well and allow it to air dry.

Tips & Warnings
If working with brushed stainless steel, take care to scrub along the grain of the metal when using the steel wool pad; this will help keep the surface looking uniform.
