Crochet Potholder Instructions
Make yourself a collection of potholders for every occasion. With just basic crochet skills, you can easily sit down with a crochet hook and whip up a potholder in a short time. By using two or three strands of heavy yarn, your potholders will be thick enough to give your hands sufficient protection as you work with hot dishes in the kitchen.
Things You'll Need
- Worsted weight yarn (3 balls of either matching or complementary colors)
- Crochet hook (Size N)
- Yarn needle

1
Pull strands of yarn off all three balls of yarn and hold the three strands together as if they are one strand. Make a slipknot with the strands of yarn and place it onto the crochet hook. Use the three strands together as if they are one strand of yarn throughout the crocheting.
-
2
Crochet 18 chains with the three strands.
-
-
3
Crochet a single crochet starting in the second chain from the crochet hook and then in each chain across the row of chains.
-
4
Chain one and turn your work.
-
5
Crochet a single crochet in each single crochet of the foundation row. Chain one and turn your work.
-
6
Repeat step 5 to make 17 total rows of crocheting for the potholder.
-
7
Fasten off your work after the last single crochet by tying the yarn into a tight knot. Clip the yarn off to leave a 3-inch tail.
-
8
Weave the yarn tail into the crochet stitches with the yarn needle and cut off any excess yarn to bury the yarn tail.
