Tips & Warnings
Sealing stone pavers will reduce incidences of efflorescence and improve the looks of your patio or walkway. According to the U.S. General Services Administration, "Efflorescence is a condition where white (salt) deposits form on the surface of the masonry. The formation of salts is usually a sign of excessive amounts of moisture in the masonry."
It's important to make sure you are using the correct sealant for the type of stone paver installed. Paver Search states, "Before applying any type of sealer to any new or existing paved areas, it is recommended that you always consult the advice of the manufacturers on the right type of sealer for your project!!"
Use safety glasses when cleaning and sealing stone pavers.
Give the stones plenty of time to dry before sealing, or the sealant will not soak into the stone. The surface will then start flaking.
