How Can I Install Magnets in a Blackberry Curve Case?
Every new BlackBerry Curve model comes with a magnetic holster---a storage case that puts the smartphone device into sleep/standby mode. This saves the user from having to press a button at the top of the Curve to temporarily shut down and save battery power. Curve owners who prefer to use other types of cases can install magnets to take advantage of the automatic sleep mode.

1
Find a magnet that activates your BlackBerry Curve's sleep/standby mode. Hold a magnet over the "V" and "B" keys on the Curve's "QWERTY" keyboard; the screen should instantly go dark. When the magnet is removed, the screen should be backlit.
-
2
Mark where the magnet will be placed on your BlackBerry Curve case. The center should be about 3/4 inch from the bottom on the front side of the case. The round magnet in the original BlackBerry Curve holster is about 1/2 inch in diameter.

Open up the area in your case where you will attach the magnet. Sandwich the magnet between thin layers, such as fabric. Or, if your case is not tight-fitting, place the magnet inside and cover it with thin packing tape. The magnet should not lie directly against the BlackBerry Curve, as it could scratch the device.
-
4
Check the effectiveness of the magnet once it's sandwiched between layers by holding it against the Curve.
-
5
Secure your case, enclosing the magnet. Make sure there are no sharp edges or debris that can get inside your keyboard.

Tips & Warnings
The BlackBerry operating system behaves differently when the magnet is detected, based on user settings. To check your profiles, click on the "Profiles" icon and scroll down to "Advanced." Click on any profile to view and edit "Out-of-Holster" and "In-Holster" settings.
Magnets can be purchased from craft or hobby retailers.
Using a magnet that's too strong can damage your BlackBerry Curve.
