How to Conduct a Phone Reverse Lookup

Have you ever had a phone number pop up on your phone or caller ID, or found a phone number in your spouse's pocket or purse and you just need to find, remember or figure out who this number belongs to?

Basically you need a reverse directory assistance but there is no operator that can help you now. There is no free 411 or cell phone directory.

1. SEARCH USING GOOGLE

   The problem doing a reverse phone search on Google is that your results are not always consistent. Google is not optimized to lookup phone reverse information. Google is a company that indexes web pages. Do they have some great free tools, you bet, but you want a specialist for special searches.

   If you have an HMO you go to your primary care doctor to get a referral to a specialist. A reverse phone search is a specialize search, Google is the primary place people start, which is fine. But once you learn that you can go directly to the specialist why stop at your primary care doctor first.

   In the first example, when you do a Google search on a phone number you need to be sure to format it correctly for optimal results. See the images for examples.

   GOOGLE REVERSE PHONE CRITERIA

   Entering the phone number in Google using different formats produces different results.

   For example;
   8009902939
   (800)9902939
   [phone]
   800-990-2939

   All produce different results.

3. 

   ENTERING 8009902939

   This entry produces results that don't look anything like phone numbers, they even have Chinese characters on them.

4. 

   ENTERING (800)9902939

   This entry produces results that appear to look like mathematical equations as well as some other pages with foreign letters. Again, pages resemble results like phone numbers.

5. 

   FINALLY ENTERING [phone]

   This entry produces results that look like they are relevant including links to web pages with that phone number (luckily that web page has the phone number formatted the same way).
   Entering the number as 800-990-2939 produces similar results. Basically, you need to watch your formatting if you plan to conduct reverse phone lookup searches using Google.

6. THE BETTER WAY TO LOOKUP REVERSE PHONE INFO

   If you want to go to the specialist directly and obtain free lookups for all white and yellow page listings available online your one-stop shop is searchbug.com

   ENTER NUMBER, CLICK FIND

   Once you are on the Reverse Phone Lookup page, simply enter any 10 digits and click find. If the information is available (published in any white or yellow directly) your report will be show immediately on the screen. Nothing to buy and no registration required.

   WHAT IF THE NUMBER IS UNLISTED, NOT PUBLISHED OR A CELL PHONE

   If the phone number you enter is a cell phone or unlisted phone number, the Searchbug system will still provide you with the type of line (land line or cell phone), the phone carrier and the approx city and state at no charge.

Tips & Warnings

• Before making any online purchase verify the company is for real.

• Is the address and phone number listed on the web site (see the contact page).

• When you call during business hours do you get thru or a return call quickly if it goes to voice mail?

• When you send email is it responded to within a reasonable time frame?

• Is the company reliable? Look for a "McAfee Secure" or BBB icon?

• If you use Google, watch out for scam sites that don't offer you any information until you pay. They should at least show you partial information so you know they found something even if it requires a fee.

• Watch out for sites that don't post their phone number or address on the web site. If a search site is trying to sell you something do not provide credit card information unless you are sure they are legitimate.

• If there is no way to contact a company other than by web form, you have to ask yourself why?
