Track the prices of your favorite items. Make a list of the items that your family uses on a regular basis, including foods, toiletries and paper goods. When you're at the grocery store, write down the prices of the items. This helps you to determine whether something is a good price or not. Most retailers in Canada follow the Scanning Code of Practice, which states that if an item rings up for more than the price shown on the shelf, you receive the item for free, or for $10 off if the item costs more than $10. As the cashier scans your item, check the price that rings up. If it is incorrect, mention it to the cashier to get the discount.
