How to Clean With Brasso

Brasso is a metal polish that works wonders on tarnished, greasy and dirty metal fixtures around your home. It is simple to use and requires very little effort to obtain a shinier, better cared for piece of metal. Brasso can be used on several metals and is easy to find at most hardware and home improvement stores.

Brasso is specifically formulated to polish, shine and protect many metals, not just brass. It is not highly abrasive, which makes it safe for expensive metals or those that are a bit softer. With Brasso, you can remove dirt, tarnish and grease buildup.

You can use Brasso on copper, stainless steel, chrome, aluminum, pewter and, of course, brass. It comes in a liquid form and is not corrosive, making it both simple and safe to use. Before you begin using your metal polish, you should mix it thoroughly by shaking the can or bottle. This will ensure no settling of its contents. Use Brasso as a copper polish or pewter shining tool by applying it to a clean, dry cloth. Since it is liquid, have the cloth ready when you begin to pour to avoid spillage.

Next, rub the cloth firmly across the metal you wish to clean or polish. Work in a circular or spiral motion as you rub the Brasso into the metal. If you are cleaning a piece that is very dirty or tarnished, you may need to apply even more pressure as you clean.

Periodically wipe the metal clean with another dry cloth so that you can see your progress. Apply more Brasso if the tarnish is not clearing and the cloth you are rubbing with seems to become dry.

Brasso should be cared for to ensure its utility. If you rub dirt or tarnish off a piece of metal and then place the cloth into a container of Brasso, you can contaminate the cleaner. Over time, the debris will cloud your Brasso liquid and make it less effective.

To avoid this, try not to dip a cloth into the container of Brasso. Instead, drip the cleaning agent onto your cloth and use a new portion of the cloth each time you apply more cleaner. In this way, you can keep what's inside the container fresh and ready for other uses.
