Homemade Catfish Bait Out of Eggs & Liver
Catching catfish can be a challenge, but the right bait can make all the difference. Homemade catfish baits are simple to make and are useful in nabbing the big ones. Eggs are often used as a binder to hold the bait together, as suggested by the Bait Big Fish website. Chicken liver is useful in catching the big cats because, according to the Game and Fish Magazine website, it is smelly and bloody, and the more catfish bait stinks the more catfish it attracts.

1
Place filler such as bread crumbs, rice or flour into a large bowl. Grind up an entire loaf of bread for this mixture, or use about 4 cups of flour or cooked rice. Start out with half of the prepared filler in the bowl and then add more as needed.
-
2
Whip four eggs in a large bowl to use as glue in your homemade catfish bait, as suggested by the Bait Big Fish website. This will bind your mixture together and make it sticky so that the other ingredients can be shaped into a ball. You may want to put on a pair of disposable plastic gloves, because this is about to become stinky.

3
Grind up about a pound of chicken livers in a food processor or blender. You can find these at butcher shops or grocery stores, and they are inexpensive. Retain the blood and juices, because this attracts the larger catfish. Add the ground livers to the bowl.
-
4
Add some garlic powder or minced garlic to your mixture. Start with about a third of a cup and add more until it has a very intense odor.
-
5
Mix together the ingredients and add more of the filler until you can shape it into balls about the size of a marble.
-
6
Lay the balls on an old cookie sheet or aluminum pie pans and set them outdoors to dry in the sun for several hours. This recipe will really stink, which is why it is effective in catching big catfish.
-
7
Place the balls into a plastic container with a lid. A large, clean margarine tub is ideal for holding your homemade bait.
