How to Use Business Power Words

Power words are single words, or a short sentence, which create impressions, images and expectations. Power words build emotional connections. They influence how we make others think and those thoughts create actions. There is a powerful connection between the words we choose to use and the results we want to get. Use business power words to get results in these types of communication.

1. Write advertising copy that will pack a persuasive punch. Consumers are bombarded with advertising, so the titles and copy you use are extremely important. By using business power words your copy will become more persuasive and result in attracting the consumer to your ad, website or listen to your TV commercial. According to the National Mail Order Association, some of the most persuasive words to use in advertisements include now, improvement, easy, challenge, compare, announcing, introducing, sensational, revolutionary and hurry.

2. Strengthen your writing skills. Power words are plain, simple and direct so there is no room for interpretation. According to "Power Words: Use Them to Strengthen Your Writing" by Elaine Sambugaro, "power words can replace passive sentence construction." A passive sentence, "The economy experienced a quick revival" can be changed to "the economy revived quickly," which makes a powerful and direct statement.

3. Increase your communications skill. Conversation plays an important role in the business world. Increasing your vocabulary is necessary to accelerate your career. Speaking positively and powerfully can lead to increased respect and encourage others to depend on you for your ideas and contributions. Use positive and active words and sprinkle them into your conversations.

4. Begin to think faster. When you have power words in your vocabulary that are useful and meaningful, you will be able to think and respond quicker. This provides the opportunity to actively contribute to conversations and discover workable business solutions.

5. Express what you want to say with confidence. Powerful words create an influential image or an impression in our minds. Using power words helps express ideas that colleagues will respect and remember, leading to your ideas being listened to and used often.
