How to Delete a Smart Filter

Adobe Photoshop Smart Filters allow various Photoshop filters to be applied to "Smart Objects" in images that contain layers. Most filters can be used as Smart Filters, with the exception of Extract, Liquify, Vanishing Point and Pattern Maker. Not all Smart Filters will yield the results that were intended when they were applied; however; when this occurs they can be modified as needed or simply deleted. Deleting a Smart Filter only takes a few moments, after which new Smart Filters can be applied to the same object if desired.

Instructions

1. Select the Smart Filter that you wish to delete from the "Layers" panel, located in the bottom right corner of the Photoshop window.

2. Click and drag the Smart Filter that you wish to remove to the Delete icon shaped like a trash can along the bottom taskbar of the Layers panel. Release the mouse button, deleting the Smart Filter.

3. Right-click on the "Smart Object" layer if you have multiple Smart Filters attached to a layer and want to delete all of them. Expand the "Layers" item, then select "Clear Smart Filters" from the Smart Filters item. This will remove all of the Smart Filters that you have applied to that object.
