How to Connect to the Internet Using an AT&T Cell Phone & a USB
You are away from your office work desk and you're nowhere close to your home computer, but you need to check your e-mail. Luckily, you have an AT&T phone and a USB cable. AT&T makes it easy to get the Internet anywhere in the world (as long as you can get reception on your cell phone) by providing you with a data plan when you sign up for their mobile service.

1
Buy a USB cell phone data kit. These can be found at several stores online. A few that you might consider are Cellcables.com, Cellphonemall.net or Amazon.com (see the Resources section below for links).
-
2
Download AT&T's communication manager (see Resources section below for link). Install the application by double-clicking on the file and following the directions. This program will allow you to connect to AT&T's mobile data network.

3
Plug the data cable into the bottom of your cell phone and connect it to your laptop via the USB cable.
-
4
Turn on your computer and go to the "Control Panel" and then to "Network Connections." Click on "Create a New Connection" and choose "Manual Connection and "Dial Up Modem."
-
5
Enter *99# for the phone number (you will need to get the user name and password from AT&T).
Once you have this set up, click on "Connect." Wait for a few seconds and once it is connected, open up your Internet browser and surf normally.
