How to Add RAM to a Xerox 6180

Adding RAM to printers helps them capture more data about what they print. As a consequence, printing becomes faster, your printer can print larger files and your computer frees up a little more of its resources which it would otherwise have dedicated toward the printing queue. Large printers such as the Xerox 6180 printer have a panel you can open to add memory without having to do any complex modifications. You might find this upgrade as easy as installing your printer.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the power cable from your printer and turn it off using the switch on the right hand side when looking from the front.

    • 2

Turn the printer so that the rear end faces you and turn the little knob on the back panel to the right counterclockwise.

    • 3

      Open the panel's door.

    • 4

Line up your memory stick so that the notch in it lines up with the one on the memory slot found on the lower right side of the panel.

    • 5

Insert the memory at an angle and press it down firmly so that it snaps into the slot.

    • 6

Close the panel door and turn the knob clockwise.

    • 7

Connect the power cable to the printer and turn it back on.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you use memory created specifically for your printer. Using other types of memory might not work or even fit in the slot designated on the printer.

  • Never operate on the printer with dirty hands. Residue from your hands might damage the internal components around the memory slot.
