How to Get an FCC Business License

Register your business with the FCC if you intend to broadcast.

Your business may be subject to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulation if it broadcasts information by television, radio, satellite, wire or cable. Getting an FCC license for your business can prevent heavy fines and cessations in operation. FCC licenses also ensure that you operate on a safe, uninterrupted frequency. You can avoid a myriad of potential setbacks by following the proper registration avenues.

Instructions

1. Gather your pertinent station information. In addition to your intended frequency and band, the FCC needs to know your mobile radio count, system output and emission details. The FCC will ask about the structure, height, elevation and coordinates of your antenna.

2. Visit the FCC Universal Licensing System web page to find your license type. Register for an FCC online account and identify the necessary license for your business by searching the "Applications" tab.

3. Complete an application online using your FCC online account. You may also download and complete the licensing application to submit by mail. Be sure to enclose the application fees in your envelope and send it to the address on your licensing application form.
