How to Learn Linux Online
Linux, marketed with a cute penguin as its logo, is an operating system like Windows or Mac OSX. It is based upon the Unix system. Unlike other operating systems commonly used, the Linux user interface is more basic, with fewer graphics. It also allows users to control the system through a command line interface, a graphical user interface (Windows and Mac OSX), or by controls attached to the hardware. Due to the different nature of Linux, it can be difficult to use at first. To help people learn, there are a number of guides available online.

Log onto the Linux website.

Choose the "Course" option from the tool bar on the left. This will direct you to the course's Web page.

Select "Getting Started with Linux---Beginner's Guide." This will take you through a step-by-step beginner's guide.

Select the "Intermediate" or "Advanced" courses as you feel more proficient. You can also select "Short Lessons" or "Tips and Tricks" to find out how to perform specific functions.

Visit other websites that offer beginner's courses. This will help you to understand any points that were not clear on the Linux website. (See Resource list.)

Purchase an e-book about Linux. These can be downloaded from many sites. Amazon, eBooks and eLibrary are a few.

Tips & Warnings
If you do not understand the Web courses or the e-book, try doing both. People learn through different methods. Try a combination.
There may be free e-books available on the subject. Check before buying an e-book.
