How to Change Autoplay Settings in XP

Windows XP's Autoplay is a feature that will automatically execute an "autorun.inf" file on a CD or DVD that is inserted into the computer. This can lead to unwanted behavior if you don't want programs and scripts on your discs to be automatically launched. You can turn this feature off or alter its behavior for certain types of media.

Instructions

1. Open Windows Explorer by right-clicking the "Start" button and selecting "Explore."

2. Click on your CD or DVD drive and then click "File" and then "Properties."

3. Click "AutoPlay" and then alter the settings for each type of media in the menu. To disable a type of media, click on the "Take no action" button, then click "Apply." When you have finished changing the Autoplay settings, click the "OK" button and the setting changes are applied.
