How to Calculate Data Bandwidth Throughput
"Data bandwidth throughput" is a term used to describe the total amount of data that can be transferred at one time over a network. The numerical value that is associated with this term references how fast you can upload or download a file from the web on an Internet network. If you want to measure the data bandwidth throughput on your network you can do so using a number of different web pages designed expressly for this purpose.

1
Use Speedtest.net (see References). Once you load the main Speedtest.net website it will automatically choose a server closest to your physical location for which to perform the bandwidth test. Click the "Begin Test" button to let the online utility calculate your total data bandwidth throughput. Once the test is complete, this information will display on screen in the form of your computer's exact upload and download speeds, measured in kilobytes per second.

2
Use the Speakeasy Speed Test (see References). Unlike Speedtest.net, you must click on a location to perform the test. Once you select a location (choose one that is close to where you are), the data bandwidth throughput test will automatically begin. The information regarding your computer's upload and download speeds, measured in kilobytes per second, will display on the screen.

Use the CNET Bandwidth Meter (see References). Though the interface may look different, the CNET Bandwidth Meter operates almost identically to the other two testing sites mentioned above. Enter your area code, choose your connection type and then click "Go" to begin the test. The test will display your computer's upload and download speeds, measured in kilobytes per second.
