How to Do a Change of Address for a Driver's License in British Columbia

If you need a break from unpacking, change your address online or over the telephone.

When you are moving into a new house or apartment, there is a lot to think about. You have to make sure your utilities are connected and your bills are forwarded. But no matter how hectic your life is, you must remember to change your address on your driver's license. The government in British Columbia gives you 10 days after your moving date to do so.

Instructions

Via Computer

1. Type www.servicebc.gov.bc.ca into the address bar on your Internet screen and click "Enter."

2. Scroll down to the "Services Index" box. Click on the option that reads, "License and Registration." A long list of services relating to your license and registration will appear.

3. Click on "Driver's License Services." This will bring you to a page on the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) website.

4. Find a box with the heading "Online Services." Click on the option that reads, "Change Your Address."

5. Click on the Online Address Change Service link.

6. Provide your full name, date of birth, new address and where you would like your change-of-address information to be forwarded to.

Via Telephone

1. Have your driver's license number ready.

2. Dial [phone] if you live in Vancouver and it is a weekday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you live anywhere else in British Columbia, and it is a weekday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., dial [phone]. After standard business hours, Victoria residents can call 250-978-8300, while other B.C. residents can call [phone].

3. Provide your full name, date of birth, new address and where you would like your change-of-address information to be forwarded to.

Tips & Warnings

• Many people find that calling or using an Internet form saves time. If you prefer to change your address in person, Step 4 in Section 1 will bring you to a screen with a link at the bottom of the page that reads, "driver licensing office." Click the link and enter your new address when prompted to find an office near you.
