Instructions

Remove the securing screws that fasten the starter cover to the side of the trimmer. This process will vary greatly among the many different manufactures. Some will require the removal of the motor cover. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver or a Torx driver to remove most of the screw fasteners on trimmers.

Pull the starter cover away from the trimmer and lay the cover face down on a flat surface. Remove the screw in the center of the rope rotor with a Torx driver. This will release the rope rotor from the starter post.

    • 3

Grab the rope rotor on the sides with your fingers and slowly lift the rotor away from the cover. You will feel a little resistance because the recoil spring may still be hooked into the rotor. Twist the rotor left to right to disengage the recoil spring from the rotor.

Remove the remains of your starter rope from the rotor.
