How to Model an Anime Character in 3-D
You can draw anime characters in 2-D or 3-D on the computer using a digital drawing tablet (a tool that allows digital drawing on the computer), or you can start by putting the drawing on paper and scanning it into the computer. The standard is to draw 2-D because it is less expensive. If you are just starting, this is the format to use in order to master the necessary drawing skills. But if you are ready to move on and want to draw your characters in 3-D, there are programs that'll allow you to do that if you are willing to invest the time and energy into the process.

1
Find a program that you can learn to use in order to make 3-D anime characters.

Try Maya. Maya is an award-winning 3-D rendering software that is usually used by professional companies. It is expensive software, but if you are willing to buy it, it has a number of features to help you draw and animate an anime character. Though it isn't specifically made for designing anime characters, it can be used for that purpose. It's all up to you to use it how you want to.

Give Blender a whirl. This is an open-source software, which means that it is free to download and use for as long as you want. Like Maya, Blender is 3-D rendering software. The difference between the two, though, lies with the capabilities. Because Blender is free, it won't have as many features to help with your design. You'll have to weigh that against the cost of Maya when deciding what program you want to use.

Give Poser a go. Unlike Maya, Poser was made specifically for character design. Its sole purpose is to design anime-like characters in 3-D. The one thing it shares with Maya is that it is expensive, commercial software. You'll have to decide if the software makes up for the price when you compare it to other anime character-designing softwares.
